Michael has been in leadership in a variety of settings for most of his adult life. He has worked as a mentor, teacher, and communicator in small and large group formats. Michael has been in leadership in a variety of settings for most of his adult life. He has worked as a mentor, teacher, and communicator in small and large group formats. Michael has been employed in the educational sphere for over a decade specializing in educational philosophy, methodology, and cutting-edge alternatives applied to schools and curriculum. This has given him years of in-person experience with parents and families seeking the best for the students.
He graduated from Grace Christian University with a Bachelor's in Ministry & Leadership in 2017. He then received his Masters of Arts in Biblical and Theological studies in 2024. He is currently pursuing a second Master's Degree with a look to further his education. He believes in being a lifelong learner no matter what you are doing and hopes to pass that onto his students.
Michael is passionate in leading other leaders, sharpening their skills, and seeing them flourish. At NDA he has enjoyed his time in classroom spaces in all K-12 environments. One goal he has in his role at NDA is to ensure that the commitment to be partners with parents is felt and experienced by our families. He has served as Principal and Administrator since 2020.

Her effectiveness in this role led to her enthusiastic transition into the position of Lead Instructor for our growing Forest School program for the 2025–2026 school year.
Sara holds a Bachelor of Arts in Christian Day School Education and an Associate’s degree in Early Education, with an emphasis in Special Education. In addition to her academic credentials, she brings a deep well of passion and practical experience to her work.
She has over 23 years of professional experience in education, having served in roles that include instructor, administrator, and beyond. Combined with her strong character, extensive experience, and genuine care for students, Sara is an exceptional educator who has a meaningful impact on the lives of those she serves.

She has served as Lead Instructor in the K-3 classroom for over 8 years, specializes in working with students in a way that sparks curiosity and joy, and has shown an adept ability to lead her support staff with such a diverse group of students. Her work professionally with curriculum used around the nation -- and her strong and natural teaching ability -- makes her an ideal pillar in our educational structure.

Beyond his academic achievements, Don brings a rich and diverse background centered on education, mentorship, and guiding others toward meaningful growth. He served as a pastor for over 15 years, leading educational ministries and cultivating strong, thriving communities. He also served as a Regional Director for a college campus ministry for several years, further demonstrating his capacity to lead and develop others. In addition, Don has been actively involved in youth ministry—both formally and informally—for more than 20 years.
At Northern Discovery Academy, Don has served as the Lead Instructor for K–6th grade, with a particular focus on 4th–6th grade students, for the past nine years. In this role, he has consistently guided students from their starting point in 4th grade to a level of readiness that prepares them well for success in 7th grade and beyond.
Don is a strong and effective educator and mentor, with a keen ability to discern each student’s needs and help them excel. His dedication, insight, and leadership have had a lasting impact on the students and families he serves.

Chendall has been with Northern Discovery Academy for over seven years, serving in a critical role leading our middle and high school classes. He earned his Bachelor of Science in English and Literature with a strong emphasis in Computer Programming and is currently pursuing his master’s degree.

In addition to his work as an educator, Chendall has served in youth ministry for several years. He is a gifted teacher across a broad range of subjects, including mathematics, English, and science. His distinctive ability to introduce students to great thinkers and classical literature—while making the material both practical and relevant to their lives—truly sets him apart.
Chendall demonstrates exceptional skill in making complex content engaging and accessible to students. His passion for students is evident in every class he leads, and his greatest strength may be his ability to build meaningful and lasting relationships with them.
Our students benefit greatly from the expertise, dedication, and enthusiasm he brings to the classroom each day. He is currently a finalist in a nationally recognized essay competition, further underscoring the academic value and excellence he contributes to our program.

Jon Hoops comes to us excited to serve students. As he pursues his education he will gain key experience here at NDA while serving students as a guide. Jon demonstrates patience, problem-solving, and key relationship building skills to help students across multiple classes.

Morgan Ross joins our team with extensive early childhood experience as a caregiver and instructor. She earned professional certification that supports her skills with our little ones. We are excited to have her join the team, continue to sharpen and grow her skills, and offer her expertise in our Forest School classroom.

Carver Claeys is a 2019 graduate of Grand Rapids Community College and a 2024 graduate of Grand Valley State University. From 2023 to 2024 he was a Writing Consultant for the Frederik Meijer Center for Writing and Michigan Authors, a Philosophy Department Teacher Apprentice, an intern for the GVSU Office of Research Compliance and Integrity, President of the GVSU Philosophy Club, and the 2024 recipient of the Dewey J. Hoitenga Prize in Philosophy. He has been substitute teaching for Edustaff since August 2025, gaining valuable and varied experience from mentoring West Michigan K-12 students. His educational strengths include Philosophy, History, Writing, and Mathematics. He lives in Comstock Park and thoroughly enjoys chess, golf, reading, theatre, and long walks to have some semblance of serenity. He also has an affinity for alliteration.

Gary Cone brings decades of knowledge and experience into his classroom spaces. He has worked in an incredibly diverse amount of backgrounds including Nuclear Power Plants! His working experience, education, and years of instructing students in camps and classes make him an invaluable resource for NDA. He specializes in weekly classes filled with information, hands-on learning, and more.

Miss Audrey joined the team last year and we look forward to having her join us again this year. She has experiencing teaching art in a private and charter school setting for many years. Audrey is passionate about creating environments where students thrive engaging their own creativity with the world around them.
