Our youngest students are such an important part of what we do here at NDA! Whether you have an older four-year old, an advanced student, or a struggling reader, we can empower them to learn and grow in the ways God has made them. Our goal is to create a classroom that excites curiosity and inspires confidence. We do this by working with each student based on ability and tailoring each class for fun, laughter, and adventure while encouraging students to work through challenges and embrace new experiences.
Students learn best when they are personally engaged, learning according to the way God made them, and are enjoying what they learn. In a phrase: making-memories. Our teachers create an environment designed to create experiences tailored for them. With high teacher-student ratios our teachers get to know your child as a person and in that shape their education and experience in the classroom.
All major subjects are taught at the ability the student is prepared for. This is essential with our youngest learners as much as any other group. We want them to master the foundations of reading, writing, and math so that they are well-prepared and capable learners. We emphasize phonics and reading specifically because it is often a skill that is hardest to teach and can be a struggle for a variety of students. More than that, it is an essential skill for them in all of life but is often the most frustrating.
A key element in our education for our littles is utilizing "loose parts" in educational play to reinforce key math concepts and thinking skills. This ignites a fun and curiosity that draws the children into learning through a joyful experience.
Our K-2 students are naturally curious and our goal is to keep our students as curious as possible. Meaning, in every class our goal is to offer experiences tailored to our students that ignite and fuel their curiosity.
One cornerstone of the structure of our days is our 15-minute memories. In these aspects of our day we create fun and engaging learning experiences that foster laughter, teamwork, and growth and do that in just 15 minutes! This keeps the kids interested and allows for flexible scheduling to serve the needs of our littles.
We have many families that ask us about their 4-year-olds attending NDA. Since we do not have the age limitations that the public school is required to have we take a different approach. We have what our teachers refer to as a Jr. Kindergarten year. This means that if your child is able to be a part of the structure of the day and is prepared in basic ways for learning (letter recognition, basic counting, simple math introduction) then we are happy to have them at NDA!
This means that either your Jr. K student will adjust quickly and be ahead in school moving forward or they will simply review/repeat their K year to continue to prepare them moving ahead.
